What you'd be doing
We have a handful of original game concepts that we want developed into self-publishable short fiction. We're looking for an experienced fiction writer, ideally with a games or narrative-design background, who can take each concept from premise to finished, polished story.
What we'll ask of you
- Develop each initial game concept into a clear short-story outline covering premise, plot, key characters, and emotional arc.
- Create a chapter-by-chapter map that breaks the story into readable beats and explains what happens in each section.
- Write the full manuscript to a self-publishable standard, including revisions based on agreed feedback.
- Work from a concept rather than a fully specified brief, asking good questions and shaping the story with confidence.
- Where useful, suggest how the story's hook, characters, or world could connect back to gameplay without turning the prose into design documentation.
What we're hoping you bring
- Demonstrable experience writing fiction, with samples published or otherwise.
- Strong grasp of story structure, including premise, plot, character arcs, pacing, and satisfying endings.
- Comfort writing polished short fiction in the rough range of 5,000–20,000 words per idea, adjustable by project.
- Ability to collaborate through milestones: approved outline, chapter breakdown, full draft, and revision pass.
- Reliable communication and realistic scheduling for asynchronous remote work.
- Bonus: Background in game writing, narrative design, interactive fiction, tabletop RPGs, or another game-adjacent storytelling discipline.
- Bonus: A genuine appreciation for games as a medium and an instinct for what makes a premise feel playable as well as readable.
What we offer in return
- Paid project work turning original game ideas into complete, self-publishable stories
- Creative room to shape premises, characters, and worlds rather than simply filling in a rigid brief
- Potential for ongoing collaboration across multiple short-fiction projects
